One day, a fairy Godmother went to a High School. She wanted to share her blessings to the children who were going to face the final exams.
“Oh what a cute pink aura you have, child,” she said to the smartest girl in the class –who, sadly, was also the most nerd and avoidable type of student- “You are very suitable for my blessing of beauty and grace.”
The Cheerleader Captain heard that and felt offended, she was the most beautiful girl in the school, and she just missed the blessings of beauty! So she rushed up to the Fairy Godmother and complained, “You are a foolish Godmother! How come a nerd like this is given the blessing of beauty? Are you blind? Her place is just between the books and the numbers for math test!”
The Fairy Godmother smiled to her gently. “Oh my dear beautiful child, you are born with that blessing inside you, how come you need it more? Unless you feel that you are not as beauty as her, of course. Hm?”
The Cheerleader Captain felt a little embarrassed, her face turned to red. But the Fairy Godmother continued, “This strong red aura…I see justice inside you, so I will give you the blessing of wisdom.”
The Cheerleader Captain stayed silent. She was dreadfully dreamt of becoming a lawyer, but she never told this to anybody. Her grades were standard, and she has this image of ‘having-fun-Cheerleader-girl’ among the students.
Then a boy with tidy appearance stood up with his hand raised. “Excuse me, Mrs. Godmother. I think you would love to give that blessing to me, since I have been winning a lot of competition and also represent this school for big-scales events such as seminars and leadership trainings and others. And I also have dedicated my life to education world; therefore I would need wisdom more than the Cheers Captain does.”
The Fairy Godmother went gently to his table and smiled to him. “You see son, you were chosen for the competitions and seminars and trainings because you were capable enough to handle those. I can’t agree more, that you are the right person to embrace people upon your leadership and wisdom. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘give more, expect less’?”
“Yes, ma’am.” He answered sharply.
“Good. That is exactly what you need to do. Give your wisdom more to the education world, to you friends, to any aspects of your life. But expect less to have more wisdom than everybody.” she told him, “and for you to give more, you need to speak more, and stands more. This is what I give you, you will need the courage.”
And so each of the students started to complained to the Fairy Godmother that this blessing and that blessing are better be theirs. But the Fairy Godmother never took back her blessings, she just keep giving the blessings away.
And so, one child left. A girl with sparkling eyes. Sparkling, but didn’t seem so interest with these blessing things. The Fairy Godmother came to her and asked, “What would you have as your blessing?”
“What’s the point of that?” she replied, “Even tough I tell you what blessing I want, you only will give me other blessing, just like you did to everyone. So give me any blessing you want, and I will work on what I want myself. With or without your blessing.”
“A good point,” said the Fairy Godmother. “And so for you to work on your will, I will give you the blessing to understand. Know yourself, and the others around you. And you will know what to do, dear child.”
The Fairy Godmother left the classroom with her big smile, behind the door she met the homeroom teacher. “I think what you just did was wonderful,” said the teacher, “but please tell me, why do you keep giving different blessings from what they want?”
“Ah, you have wonderful kids,” replied the Fairy Godmother, “most of them just knew what their potentials. I didn’t say that I will give what they want from the first place, I only said that I would give them blessings to help their next steps.”
The teacher didn’t seem so understand. “But with all due respect, Mrs. Fairy Godmother. Shouldn’t we support what the children want?”
The Fairy Godmother turned and smiled gently. “Do blessings will stand as an obstacle?” she asked.
“Well no, I guess blessing is a good thing indeed, but..”
“So there is nothing to be worried about,” cut the Fairy Godmother, “I’ve told you that these kids are wonderful. Most of them knew which way to go after this High School times, it’s their natural blessings. The blessings I just gave to them are the booster, to make them try harder, and better.”
“Don’t you know, Mr. Homeroom Teacher? The first girl I met in your classroom. Well, she was a brilliant girl indeed, I believe you agree with me about that. But what her friend just said to her, we couldn’t say it wrong too. She was so clumsy and old-fashioned and unsocialized, she only make friends with her books and math practices.” The Fairy Godmother explained, “Of course I could just gave her the blessing of brilliance to make her even more brilliant then she is now. But will it make her life better? She will only meet other peculiar books and other hard math practices. Do you feel like she is stepping forward?”
“So instead of giving her that super-duper-mathematic-brain blessing, I gave her the beauty one. I want her to know that with her brilliance and as a bookworm, she also can be beautiful and socialize, just like her other friends right now. That’s what I call giving blessing, not developing blessings.” She ended her explanations with small giggles.
“I see now,” said the teacher, “that’s why you gave the Cheerleader Captain the wisdom, so that she believe she can be more than beauty.”
“Yes, and the other boy too.” Fairy Godmother added, “and the rest of the class.”
“But I have a little concerned about the last girl, Mrs. Fairy Godmother. I was hoping that you would gave her a particular blessing so that she can make a choice of her future.” The teacher said again.
“Oh that girl with sparkling eyes, she gave me a difficult answer. I also was hoping the same way, Mr. Homeroom Teacher. I saw a lot of blessings in her sparkling eyes, she is unexpectedly multitalented!”
“I believe so, too. We teachers can see her potentials in different things, but I don’t know why, her grades are always so low.”
“Blessings and curse are separated with a very thin line, just like hate and love. For her, having such a lot of talents only confuse her more. She doesn’t know which to choose. What a pity,” replied the Fairy Godmother, “But don’t worry Sir, I gave her the blessings of understanding. She needs to know herself more to make a choice. It will take some time tough, but remember, blessings are never be an obstacle, right?”
And so The Fairy Godmother disappeared.
